Register
tax preparers in the State of California only after they have
met and continue to meet the state-mandated educational requirements
for becoming a tax preparer
Review
and approve the curriculum for tax schools providing that state
mandated education.
How
does a tax preparer
become CTEC-registered?
A
prospective tax preparer must
Successfully
complete a CTEC-approved 60-hour, qualifying education courts
in order to registered and must successfully complete 20 hours
of CTEC-approved continuing education each year thereafter to
remain registered
Maintain
a $5,000 tax preparer bond, issued by a surety company admitted
to do business in California, in order to protect his/her customers
against fraud, misstatement and unlawful acts or ommissions.
What
risks are you taking by using an unbonded,
unregistered
tax preparer?
Using
an "unregistered tax preparer" rather than an attorney,
a CPA, an Enrolled Agent or a bonded CTEC-registered tax preparer...
May
increase your probability for fines, penalties and back taxes
May
minimize your opportunity to claim valid deductions
Does
not provide you with a $5,000 bond to protect you against fraud,
misstatement and unlawful acts or omissions by the tax preparer.
